Cebu has numerous beautiful water destinations, but many of them have become commercialized tourist spots. Famous places like Kawasan Falls, Boracay, and Moalboal attract large crowds and are hubs for business opportunities.
For those seeking a less developed and more natural experience, Dayhag Waterfalls is a perfect choice. This destination remains relatively unknown, providing a refreshing escape for adventurous individuals. Learn more about this hidden gem below!
Embarking on the Journey to Dayhag Waterfalls
Located beyond the Cebu Highlands Trail in Upper Beceril, Dayhag Waterfalls requires an adventurous journey even before reaching the destination. You can ride a habal-habal to get there, enjoying rewarding views along the way. The entrance is marked by a simple welcoming sign, and due to its lesser-known status, you’ll encounter a small crowd and a clean environment.
If you’re an adrenaline junkie wanting to reach the waterfalls on your own, worry not; there are carefully planned pathways. Alternatively, you can hire a local guide to help navigate the safest routes within the waterfall tiers.
The Development Story of Dayhag Falls
Thanks to the joint efforts of Boljoon’s Municipal Tourism and Heritage Office and the Sangguniang Kabataan 2012, a cultural mapping initiative was launched to invest in the region’s tourism development. This initiative focuses on highlighting each barangay’s cultural and historical features, and Upper Beceril contributes Dayhag Waterfalls as its gem.
Exploring the Tiers
Dayhag Waterfalls boasts multiple tiers, ensuring there are always new wonders to explore and marvel at. As you ascend to higher tiers, the journey becomes more challenging in terms of height and depth. With the various tiers available, you can choose the one that matches your skills and preferences.
Conveniently, bamboo-and-nipa cottages are available in the area for resting. However, it’s important to note that bringing food and drinks to the tiers is not allowed to prevent pollution.
While Dayhag Waterfalls may lack the same level of development as other tourist spots, some consider it a haven—a breath of fresh air different from the widely marketed destinations. The simplicity and connection to nature make it a charming experience. If this kind of adventure appeals to you, Dayhag Waterfalls is the place to be!
